Tangoio Decr. 16th. 1864. My dear Mr. McLean, Biggs has just sent me a line telling me the kind interest you take in our behalf, I sincerely trust that before that insane law of direct purchase comes in force, that you will have managed all that you require for the Province and thereby save us from that constant state of ferment and most likely war, which in my opinion must necessary follow after the proclamation of this very short sighted law. Before Morris's visit there would not have been the slightest trouble about your purchasing the coast as far as Mokaera and even now if the natives find that they really cannot let and a bait thrown over this new law I have little doubt that you will get what you require. Yours very truly, Edw. Turgood.
