extent. 'Pawa te Apatu' by his own admission has little to do with it. 'Ahipene' has a pretty large claim which he may or may not make good - Matiu claims one entire subdivision the 'Rua rakaiputara' containing 300 ac: under occupation by Reedes and McNain - 'Ngatimoe whare' another of some 160 ac: -As the block contains between five and six thousand acres there is ample margin for making the advance suggested to 'Hamana' 'Maihi' and 'Karamia' - The opportunity might also be taken of converting from leasehold into freehold the Block leased from 'Maihi' alleging as a reason that it falls some 80 or 90 acres short of the Block originally offered - and concerning which the Baygain was made - Beyond obtaining the signatures of the natives now in Napier to an agreement to sell and making them an advance to bind the Transaction, I see nothing to be gained by pressing the case until the sittings of the Lands Court shall have disposed of the opposition claims one way or another - In reference to the 'Paoroa' Block I am in treaty with 'Maraki Kohea' and others but am unable to write definitely by this mail - I cannot refrain from expressing the extreme dissatisfaction I feel at the obstacles thrown in the way in various quarters and I trust the Government will give me their support in carrying out an object upon which the future prosperity of this district so mainly depends. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedt. servt. George B. Worgan His Honor D. McLean Esq.
