MEMORANDA on papers from Crown Land Commissioners Office M. F. Claims and Disputes in Wairarapa C. R. Carter Taratahi Plain. Land applied for and purchased by C. R. Carter is included in the Reserve claimed by Natives. Amount granted by Deed 100 Acres Amount claimed about 1500 acres being the whole of the land between the Waitangi and Para Creeks, bounded on the North by Manukau swamp and south by Backwater of Ruamahanga. Principal claimants. Pirika te Po and Ihaka. Sketch and Native Letter herewith. James Smith, Waiueor Land applied for on Weritas Pahana Block. Payment claimed by Natives for Inland portion of Block including Land occupied by James Smith. Estimated Contents about 20,000 Acres of rough and extremely impracticable country the greatest portion heavily timbered. Smith's Run. 3,000 acres perhaps, and about 2,000 more at junction of Pahana of Broken but open Land. Claimants. Mikaera, Hoera Wakataha Werita Kawakairangiki. Arema Karaka's Block. In connection with this is Arama Karaka's Block on which £100 has been paid. Balance due - Estimated Surveyed contents 3,900 acres. Claimants. Arama Karaka Hemi te Kohea and others. Wi te Weu disputes Arama's right to that portion of the block between the Puapuatapatu and Nawapuma Greeks? Geo. Meredith, Warekaka} A Piece of Land purchased by Mr. Meredith on the 15th March 1854, but subsequently discovered to be included in Native Land at Ponawatea and of which a portion included in a Reserve made for Rawiri Piharau. Capt. Smith then District Surveyor defined the boundary between the Native and Crown Land on the Plan but not on the Ground and when instructed in November 1860 by Mr. Weld (at that time Native Minister) to survey 150 acres for Rawiri and to apply to Te Mahihera to point me the boundaries. Manihera deputed Pehi (a native) to do so and the boundary was laid out in accordance with such instructions by me (Sketch herewith) R. Barton Cape Palliser} Te Oroi Reserve and a Reserve at Whawhanui River situated on his Run, and partially purchased by him. Sketch and Correspondence herewith. Clapham Tupurupuru} A Native of the name of Karauria residing at the Uhuroa lays a claim on a piece of the Tupapokia Block adjoining the Mangahuia Creek and has made a small plantation thereon, stating that at the time of purchase he received no portion of the payment. H. R. Kane Wairarapa} A purchase of Certain Selections on the Rahiruru River a portion of which are included in a Reserve made for the Natives at Pirinoa. C. Matthews, West Side of Lake} The Waiorongomai Reserve purchased in December 1853. J. M. Jury and Buck & Kemble Pukengaki} Applications pending on the settlement and survey of the boundary over the Pukengaki Range. I have arranged for the survey of this boundary. C. J. Pharazyn Wharehama} As the 500 Acres to be given to the Natives, Puipi Tuapa and others, is not located in the Deed?
