Government House Wellington 20th. April 1848. Sir, You are hereby authorised to obtain an advance at Whanganui from any persons willing to accomodate you with the same, of One Thousand Pounds sterling, for, and on behalf of the Government of New Munster, and for the purpose of paying to the natives of Whanganui the aforesaid sum in satisfaction of their unextinguished rights to a Block of 40,000 acres awarded to them by Mr. Spain, upon this sum being paid subject to certain reservations to be agreed upon on behalf of the natives. The said sum of £1000 if advanced to you as aforesaid shall be promptly and duly paid at the Treasury, Wellington, upon production of thie Authority, and an Estimate for the service duly countersigned by myself (either originals or duplicates) and both bearing your endorsement and countersigned by the Resident Magistrate of Whanganui in certificate of the sum mentioned being advanced as aforesaid for the purposes specified.
