(Letter undated.) Dear Sir, The "Victory" is daily expected here; and report says with few passengers for this settlement, owing to the Land Question being still unsettled. It is said that Thomas is to be our Crown Land Commissioner, but for the life of me, I cannot trace the report to any authority. Many of our settlers are of the opinion that your return here is altogether out of the question. But they speak in lamentable ignorance of outstanding questions; which can only be arranged by you. Therefore, I say, come as soon as yon can. The quarrel at Waitara is decidedly favourable to the "good cause"; but I fear satisfaction will be made. I am anxious to hear from you about the present and probable future fate of this neglected, settlement. If anything turns up worth writing about, you hear from me by the "Victory." (Signed) H. Halse. To:- D. McLean Esq.
