Tauranga. April 12th. 1872. My dear Mr. McLean, I received your telegram of to-day just too late to reply before you left Napier this afternoon. I have written to Preece to assemble the principal men of Te Urewera, at Whakatane. It is the only convenient place for you to meet them. You never can depend on landing at Matata, on account of the heavy surf which breaks on that beach.
