Mohaka March 7th 1865 Dear Sir I have just concluded the Waihua purchase before paying the money I went round the block with Paul and about twenty others when they added about seven thousand acres to the piece surveyed by Mr. Fitzgerald - on our way round the boundaries we fortunately found Kohea and his people gathering Karaka when an old dispute respecting the boundary between him and Paul was settled after our return to Waipapa a meeting was called where were assembled all the leading men in the neighbourhood amongst others Paora Apatu and Teira Paia and Poha after a day and a halfs talk every thing was settled to the satisfaction of all present for twelve hundred and fifty pounds (£1250) the two hundred and fifty was for the extra seven thousand acres which takes in a very good Block of Totara the deed is signed by about eighty persons - After finishing the above business I rode with Toha Teira paia Heremia and others a few miles up the river where I met a party from up the Waiau Moakena and his people who offerred all the land from the back of the Waihua block to the Mohaka up that river to the Ngatihinueru boundary then along their boundary to the Waiau then down that river to a level with the upper part of the Waihua block it is a very large block but a part of it is very rough I told them that I must settle all the old affairs first and then I would see them again with which they were satisfied but requested me to be quick - I go with Paul Apatu Toha and others tomorrow to the Wairoa from there to Nuhaka and the Mahia, Paul Apatu is going with me, after finishing Nuhaka etc. I intend to return to the Wairoa to survey a block that Paul Apatu, Kopu and Kohea have offered - There is a party of the 'Pai Marire' at the Urewera country carrying an Europeans head with them, I have not heard how they are getting on at Napier. Winiata who bothered you for money at Napier for an old claim at the Awaita named Ngakata allows me no peace he wants the money for a woman named Ema pirangi and a child I promised him to write to you - I hope sincerely that you are recovering for I should like to see you in Napier again soon, Mr. Cooper is agoing to send Paul Kerepu twenty rifles I hear - I remain, Dear Sir Your ob.
