Corrected Draft. Letter to the Governor. Auckland, January 23, 1861. Sir, From information lately received from different sources, both European and Native, there is every reason to believe that the natives meditate an attack upon Auckland. They have erected strong pas in the forest country inland of Drury. They are using every effort to collect supplies of ammunition;and they are at present busily engaged in securing their crops, and placing them in those fortresses. In one pa recently finished they have several tons of flour, and it appears that they have a large supply of powder obtained by the aid of foreigners concealed in a place which is not easily accessible, and to which they themselves only resort at night. It is evident from all that can be gathered that preparations are being made for an impending struggle.
