No. 62)40 Crown Lands Office, Wellington 30th Jany. 1862 Sir, I enclose tracing of a Native Reserve at Ohariu and should feel much obliged if you would certify to me whether the boundaries of this Reserve have been surveyed off and if not, inform me when you could direct this survey to be made. I am particularly anxious to ascertain the Southern boundary; because Messrs. Bowler and others have purchased 400 acres adjoining and have been very pressing to have their boundary given which however I am unable to do until the Native boundary shall have first been determined. Latterly, an application has been made to throw up the selection and select 400 acres elsewhere on account of the impossibility of my being enabled to ascertain for them where the owners can fence and erect their homestead. My reply has been that I would press the matter on your attention, in accordance with which promise I now address you and have the honor to be Sir, your most obedt. servant, William Fitzherbert. Crown Lands Commr.
