Memo. from G. Eyre, to Mr. Domett, dated 3rd. December 1849. Mr. Domett, Referring to Mr. Fox's application (filed at your office) for the Government to take measures to put a stop to illegal squatting, - inform him that having referred the question to the Governor-in-Chief for instructions, you forward to him a copy of a Despatch which I received from His Excellency, on the subject. State also, that in conformity with Sir G. Grey's directions, I shall be prepared to confer the necessary powers upon Officers of the New Zealand Company, when he, on their behalf, may wish to be nominated for the purpose, - upon seeing the names of such individuals.
