''Clyde'' April 25th 69 Dear Sir, I need have felt but slight delicacy in tendering my resignation, as I received this morng. a letter from the Honble. J.C. Richmond dated the 24th Inst. 'off Wairoa' terminating my employment at once - As it is simply what I looked for I am neither surprised or grieved about the matter - I think that some slight thanks might have accompanied the dismissal, but Mr. Richmond having as I understand been absent a long time from ''Wellington'' and ''Napier'' knows but little of recent events, and it is unlikely that my here would have thought it necessary to remind him of any little services I may have rendered - I proposed going to Napier immediately my family are already there - I may perhaps be able to afford a little assistance to you in the way of information etc. whilst there - They propose simultaneous movement from all points upon 'Waikare'. I am afraid the Natives here will refuse to stir, they have excellent grounds for so doing. The season is late altho in one sense that is an advantage the enemy will suffer more than our troops from the inclemency of the weather should it so happen that the Govt. take the needful precautions necessary for their welfare - I am dear Sir Your most obedt. servt. Geo. B. Worgan D. McLean Esqr.
