My dear McLean Smith will have told you what has passed on the subject of Hay's report - Pray therefore do not replace him in the land purchase department or let him take up his duties without first speaking to me on the subject. Should Sir G. Grey arrive before you do so, I would suggest that you forward a regular minute requiring that he may be replaced in the Departmt. and his salary again charged against the Land fund purchase.
