Wallingford May 11th/64 Dear McLean, Todays mail brought me your note telling me you were to leave for Auckland in an hour. I hope you may be successful in getting what you go for. On your return I will come down for a day as I should like to see you before any proclamation is issued for the calling out of the Militia. As I think a better arrangement is desirable than at present exists as to the general working of militia matters. Please await my arrival before settling anything definitely. I will come as soon as I hear you are back. I am not against the militia being called out provided the steps taken to mitigate the evil are sufficient. Hoping to see you soon. Yours always, J. D. Ormond
