Auckland 13th Octr. 1871 Dear Mr. Mainwaring, I am sorry I was unable to see you when you called being as you are aware closely occupied by public business. But Mr. Moore has told me the object of your call. If I had seen you all that I could have said I can as well say by letter, viz., that during the time and upon all occasions when you have assisted the Supreme Court on the trial of Native Cases, you have done so with steadiness and ability, and during all such time I have heard nothing in the smallest degree prejudicial to your character, either as a man of business or as a gentleman. Believe me to be Yours truly G. A. Arney
