Horowhenua 26 Febry. 1868 Dear Sir I hope your Honor will excuse writeing to you but theres geting to be a good deel of bother with the Natives about land you will remember the Whatanui and Aopea giveing my half cast son a piece of land here you were good enough to let Seearanck survey the place wich he did and made a map of it he took all my papers that the Natives gave me away with him to Auckland and I have nothing to show now as he has never wrote to I have wrote to him about them but he has not answered my letter through that I have taken the liberty of writing your Honor in hopes that you will ask Mr. Seearanck what has become of the papers I have nothing to show and old Nopia is dead I put full trust in your Honor to do justes to my son Mr.Cook has got crown grants for all his childrens land that was don by your orders at the same time as my sons I ask it as a great favor of your Honor to look after this for me as I am very poorly and have been for a long time and I may not live very long and I should like to see it right myself it may be of some use to my little ones by and by for Hugh is a good lad and I think he would look after his little brothers and sisters after I am gone. I hope your Honor will excuse me writing you such a long letter but I feel all amost sure your Honor will not take a mis from one of the old clan Yours very truly H. McDonald To His Honor D.
