Clyde Nov. 24th 68 Dear Sir, Hamlin has succeeded in getting the natives stirred up to starting and they will go away in the best spirits. Major Lambert appears very ill pleased and disinclined to assist in any way -- I don't quite like the place being left so bare -- but the enemy will probably have enough to occupy them without making any attempt on the Wairoa -- The natives seem somewhat unwilling to muster at Paora's pa -- and the Major pays no attention to my solicitation that the few who remain behind be put upon rations and enrolled so as to make them useful on an emergency. From the cheerful disposition of the Force I auger the best results. Mr. Hamlin deserves great credit for the way he has managed matters. I will do the best I can but it is difficult to do much under existing conditions. It is to he hoped that there may be no occasion. Mr.Preece is well liked by the natives. I have nothing of any importance to communicate -- the Mohaka natives are supposed to be scouting -- near Putere -- I beg to remain, Dear Sir, Your obedt. servt. Geo. B. Worgan His Honor D. McLean Esq.
