Napier 12th November, 1868 Dear Sir, I am much obliged for your letter of 11th Instant, Capt.Westrop has arrived here with the women and children in the ''Eagle'' although he confirms the horrible massacre which took place at Poverty Bay he considers that the remaining settlers assisted by the friendly Natives can protect themselves. I have despatched the ''Ahuriri'' to Poverty Bay today with a party of Napier Natives and I trust no more disasters will take place until the return of this Steamer, when I hope to receive some detailed account of the movements of the Enemy I have written this at Mr.McLeans request. I remain, My dear Sir, Yours very truly, Edward L. Green
