''St. Kilda'' January 5th. 1869 Dear Sir, I write these lines additional to say that I still think that 400 men might be sent from here with great advantage, to Pa Puni. If so, let me go this time. Henare would like to get the steamer to land him at Muriwai, and thence march to the Front; but it is obvious that there are already enough men there; and 100 in rear would be more use than 500 at the Front. Capt. Fox thinks that if you wished it; - that is, giving up all idea of movement from here - that he could ship Henare's men, and still save the Parawa mail. I would, however, very strongly advise sending the ----- back to Pa Puni. They never ought to have left it; and many of the Wairo Chiefs are quite ashamed of having returned. There is really very little difficulty to contend with at this season; and why is it Te Kooti has means of retreat in this direction at his command, unless we take action from here. We need stores, specially sugar. I have endeavoured to facilitate Capt. Fox's departure as much as possible. I beg to remain dear Sir, Your obedient servant (Signed) Geo. S. Worgan To:- His Honor D. McLean Esq.
