Letter from T.G.B. to Donald McLean Esq. dated September 27th. (no year date) My dear McLean, Parris has written a very sensible letter from Taranaki, and I enclose you the Minute I have put upon it. I hear W. King is determined to resist, and if he does, we must pitch into him. The good people at Taranaki are getting impatient, and very bumptious; and I am rather anxious to give them a rebuff. It is not to please them I would hasten Teira's purchase, but because it ought to be completed. Their impatience is the chief obstacle to the attainment of their wishes. I have been obliged to send my most important despatch without your opinion, which I regret very much, but I have ventured to say that your opinion is known to coincide with Smith's. Smith's letter is admirable, so are those from the Bishop, Swainson, Martin, and Buddl. I think the Despatch and the enclosures (if they are read) will together have the desired effect. Believe me, yours sincerely (Signed) T.G.B. September 27th. P.S. (to foregoing letter) If Mr. Parris is satisfied that Teira and the others who offer to sell have an indisputable title to the land, an advance should be made to them at once in part payment. They should, however, be told that the purchase will not be completed until Mr. McLean wishes, in Taranaki. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
