Te Wairoa Feb. 22nd. 1868. My dear Sir, I believe the Bishop mentioned to you that I was anxious to take charge of the Government School at Kakowhai Township. The people there have called a meeting and are very desirous that I should do so. They have already collected several pounds and tell me that they can raise twenty altogether. A conclude the Government will give £20 more as soon as this can be arranged they will commence the School house. I should be very much obliged to you if you will arrange matters so that the Government money may be forthcoming as quickly as possible. I am very anxious to begin my duties as soon as I can. You are aware my husband had been out of employment over three months, anxiously awaiting the Maori appointments. Major Fraser told me that yourself and John Ormond had told him that the Doctor was certain to get it. That is not three weeks ago and we are getting rather uneasy about it. If not too much trouble will you drop us a line about it for we have not even heard from John for a long time. Should my husband get the appointment and I/the School it will enable us to work our land and give us a nice start. In grt. haste Yours faithfully H. Ormond.
