Wairoa July 9th 68 Sir, I have the honor to forward you two letters written today at the dictation (verbatim) of the Maories. In explanation I have to state that Mr.Corbin, late of the firm of ''Davis and Corbin having found it necessary for his own protection to obtain possession of his sheep has had the assistance of the Natives in so doing -- and has paid them his share of the rent due by the late firm to the owners of the land -- Some few hundred sheep alleged by Mr. Davis to be his property are retained by ''Kahu'' and ''Ngatikahungunu'' as security for amt: due them by Davis -- Mr.Corbin removes his sheep on to the Govt. land on the North side of ''Kahuroa'' Creek -- ''protem'' -- I have advised this course as it is desirable that the Lands under offer or contemplated offer to the Govt. should be free from any incumberance -- I have promised Mr.Corbin to solicit your permission to the temporary use of a portion of the Govt. Land -- which I trust you will accord -- I have the Honor to remain, Sir, Your most obedt.Servt. George B.Worgan His Honor D. McLean Esq.
