My dear Sir, As usual I am in the midst of raruraru. I send you a note for Fitzgerald. What a pity he did not apply some two months ago before such a mob of surveyors came from the other Colonies - I wish you were in Auckland just now to witness the Excitement which prevails here - The late English news and the Maori prisoners places us in the North in a great difficulty. The Govr. and his Ministers are at War and your words will soon come true that the War will be patched and matters will be far worse than ever in A letter has been just received from the escaped. There is a great difference of opinion between the Govr, and all the Ministers, clerks late and early writing long documents which the world as yet know nothing about. I could write you a long epistle but my friends from Kaipara are so importunate for news and I am quite at a loss what to do about Waikato who have got into the Pakiri district and a section of Maihi's people have joined them which has placed the north in a difficulty but I trust I t will prove eventually more cheering than the present. Money is becoming scarce. We may possibly be paid in green backs before long. I have not received the Interest yet. Yours very truly J. Rogan Auckland 30 Sept. 64
