. Custom House. Kawhia. 24th. April 1860. Sir, I have the honour to inform you I have just received the letter from His Excellency the Governor, informing me you are coming over to Kawhia. I am very glad to find you are coming over, for I have just been informed by Mr. Lowrie that he has seen a letter this morning stating thatnthere has been a Meeting of natives, and they have come to the determination that myself, Mr. Lowrie, Mr. Snachenberg, and two others, should immediately leave Kawhia; and for the future would not allow a Custom House in Kawhia. Will you therefore come over as soon as possible, and see the natives on the subject. The natives are now making preparations to go to Taranaki to join Wm. King. I have the honour to be, Sir, Tour most obedient servant, (Signed) H.N. Brewer. Sub. Collector. (True Copy) J. Rogan, D.C. To:- Donald McLean Esq. Raglan.
