My dear Mr. McLean, The "Nunda" is here again punctually according to one view and two days behind her time according to another-each side taking their choice. Everything is quiet here save the "Caledonia" mine which has at last got to pure gold-so they say. One thing is I believe certain-that they are going to dispense with creeking in regard to a considerable quantity of ore and put it at once into the melting pot. Farmer has sold all his remaining interests in the Uranus Company to T. Russell for £25,000 cash, and is buying blocks of houses in Queen St. with the money. Crombie has bought D. Grahame old shops with his dividend from the mine. With dividends of £25, &12 and £15 a fortnight, per share of course the Scrip is high, Caledonian selling at £212-10. I am glad to see that Fitzherbert is going to support the Government. There is no political news. I have been sending to the printer at Wellington by each post schedules of my report on N. Reserves, they are very compendious. Yours very truly, My dear Mr. McLean, Charles Heaphy. Auckland June 24th. Noon. The Hon. Donald McLean.
