To D. McLean Esqre. Te Wairoa Novr. 16th, 1867 Dear Sir, You have always most kindly shown a desire to assist me, I must therefore again re quest that you will be good enough to interest yourself in my behalf. I am at present out of employment, and in the event of nothing turning up soon, I would feel greatly obliged by your proposing me for the Mar ri Appointment here. Captn. Deighton distinctly informed me a few days ago that Dr. Scott would lose it for he had determined officially to report him - At the same time he asked me to apply for it. He spoke so surely of the vacancy occurring at once that I cannot feel that I am injuring Dr. Scott by applying - Should the vacancy not occur of course you will treat this as a purely private offer on my part - I have no desire to turn him out of office, only if it is to be, and I can get nothing else I should like to be an early candidate. My Family are now here and I have some idea of settling on my Land in which case for a year or two the salary of this appointment would be a great boon to me - In great haste, I remain, dear Sir, Yours faithfully, Fredk. F. Ormond
