Huangarua, July 16th.'52. My dear Maclean, The Natives are preparing to receive you about what I can scarcely gather. In the meantime I have to bring under your notice a case falling under the Treasury Ordinance by a party of the name of I. Tucker who is about to take possession of the unoccupied part of Tauherenikau Plains lying between the New Road and Morrison's Bush. From all I see I think your interference in the Warehaka case is likely to bring about a crisis. I had the two parties of Natives together the other day purposely when I think I could see a slight breach and before long it will likely be wide enough for to you to go in and win. You will of course see the propriety of keeping this quiet. Hoping to see you soon, Believe me Yours sincerely, Purvis Russell.
