Mohaka May 24th/68 To His Honor the superentendent of the Province of Hawks Bay. Sir I do not know who is accountable for the present stat of things at Mohaka onely I know that it a great hardship to me I have had goods this two months on bord of a vessal comming to Mohaka the vessal has ben several times here and had good upertunitys of landing or getting in but the Pilot aperantely cares little whether a vessal gets in or not he do not Put himself to much truble at any rate If the wind is fair then he will signal the vessal to come in if not he will not weat his feet I think it verry hard two months ago I Put goods on board of the grealing and she saild for Mohaka threeday afterwards she came back to Napier had ben of Mohaka but no one came nere them or made aney signal the master would not leave Napier unless I would go to Mohaka and look out for them I had to leave and go at once he came to Mohaka but as usual the wind was not fair and he could not bring her in I can do nothing against his will so I gave him a Pound for the use of his boat I got Natives and went of myself and brought my goods on shore I may say that since the apointment of this Pilot ower harbour has ben as good as shut up and that People living on the coast are better off than we who have no harbour at all Poilot is simpley a newsence at Mohaka does not understand the work and is by far to timid and if he continus Pilot I may as well give up busness for it is to or three months in nearly every case before I get my goods I wish allso to tell you that thare being no ferry resarve at Mohaka I suffer great loss from trspass in some times having two thousand sheep runing all over my plase while crossing I know if I Put them in the Pound, thare will be a great outcry but I am not to blame Thare should be yards for keeping sheep at the ferry so long as I had the ferry I was not so particler but I do not see that I am cald upon to suffer loss for othr Peoples benefit I hope you will give those matters your consideration for I can asure you that the eavle is great.
