Colonial Secretary Wellington 7th. August 1851. Sir, I have had the honour to receive, and lay before His Excellency, the Goveraor-in-Chief, your letter of the 30th. ultimo, respecting the progress made in the surveys at Hawke's Bay, since your report of the 14th. April last. Referring to the sixth paragraph of your communication. submitting for His Excellency's consideration, whether you may be authorised to send a messenger to the Ahuriri to withdraw Mr. Pelichet, the duties assigned to him being nearly completed. His Excellency observes that that gentleman should be withdrawn, as recommended by you; and that the question of his further employment can be subsequently settled.
