18th. September 1872. Patea. Dear McLean, Am very late this morning. My prospects here are very good, - but I am afraid of the Taranaki, and - - -. Standish says I have a majority there. I leave for Taranaki in the morning. I shall spend every hour canvassing. No effort shall be wanting. I have risked all on this cast, and must win if possible. I have every iron in the fire that can safely be used. Hold our party together, and I trust to be able to swell the number in a few days. Yours truly (Signed) J.W. Moorhouse. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
