Dear Sir, Would you be so good as to inform me for the information of the Natives generally in this District as to the manner in which the 5 per cents on their lands have been appropriated that is if it is your opinion that they should be informed they have heard that a sum of £500 out of their 5 per cents has been given towards the building of a School House at Papawai, all those living at a distance from them are very much against this appropriation, as they are constatly demanding that I should pay them their 5 per cents I think if such an appropriation has been made they should be at once informed of it. I am Dr. Sir, Yours obliged Will N. Searancke. 26 March 1860. D. McLean Esq. Auckland.
