Copy Wairoa, March 26, 69 Sir, I have the honor to report for the information of the Govt: that the scouts sent out at the instance of the Native Chiefs again saw a party of Hau Haus near ''Manotawhiorangi'' on the Waiau about 4 p.m. yesterday -- but were unable to obtain any particular account of their proceeding s as they viewed them at a distance from the Ranges. The Revd. ''Tamihana te Huata'' and the Chief 'Kohea' are strengthening their pas at Matiti and 'Rua Taniwa' I consider that altho: both are extremely strong places, the defenders are too few to offer much resistance to determined attack. They are moreover short of Ammunition, I have pointed this out to the officer commanding here who will I trust take steps to rectify it. I would point out particularly to the notice of the Govt. that from the peculiar position of the Township of ''Clyde'' we are largely dependent on our native Allies both for information, and assistance in the event of attack and that it is therefore necessary that all plans for the Defence of the District should have some reference to them -- I am desirous of being informed as to whether it is the intention or wish of the Govt: to continue my present employment in the service for any period, as I am obliged to devote my time entirely to it to the great detriment of my private business as a Professional man. I have the Honor to remain, Sir, Your Obedt. Servt. Geo. B. Worgan To the Acting Agent for the Genl. Govt. Napier
