Ashcott, 31 August, 1865. My dear McLean, I shall do all in my power to secure Ormonds return. as besides being my friend, I think he is "the right man in the right place" and I shall deem it a disgrace as well as a loss to the Province if Buchanan is returned. I this day got the promise of the support of one of the greatest of our working men politicians and he has much influence with others which he will exert in Ormonds favor. You some time since were good enough to say through. Ormond that you would send my name to the Governor for a Militia Commission. I shall be glad if I can be recommended for a Captaincy (unattached would be quite as well) as it certainly would not be pleasant to be junior to young fellows half my age, without stake in the province and who have not seen any service to entitle them to priority. I of course write to you in confidence, assured that you will be able to manage it for me. Mrs. Tucker and our boy quite well and she desires to be very kindly remembered to you and Miss A. McLean and believe me to be Yours faithfully, John Tucker. P. S. I trust that Napier will remove her "Tribune" and return you as Ormonds colleague.
