Auckland, 17 Nov., 1849. My Dear Sir, I am just going away on a cruise to the Copper island of Kawau and have only time to say to you that you may not perhaps understand why I write you again respecting the Natives having any objections to the purchases made by the Company. I am afraid that the terms of my former letter led you to answer respecting the purchase merely. In fact when I wrote I was not in full possession of the subject to put the question properly, and even at the present moment I do not know where the plans of survey of the lands purchased are nor what particular blocks the Coys Agent requires grants to be made. I would therefore be obliged to you to ascertain privately what the blocks are they have applied for Grants on account of, and whether the Natives have objections to the Grant being made. This of course you will state in your public letter. The Governor and Lady Grey have not gone away at the time they formerly talked of, but I suppose he if not she will go soon.
