Rangitikei 9th. Oct. 1870. My dear Mr. McLean, I beg to thank you for your note of the 1st. inst. which has relieved my mind very much. I have seen a good many natives since the receipt of it and very general satisfaction has been expressed at the prospect of your visiting the District. Kooro te one forwarded to me your letter to him with a request that I would see him before he went to Wellington. I thought it better, however, not to see him lest it might be thought that I influenced him in any way. But I visited his people (Ngatikau whata) who live chiefly at a village a considerable distance from where Koro resides. By their instructions I wrote to Kooro that his hapu had no instructions to give him as he was already fully acquammted with their grievances and wishes. He was requested merely to be full and explicit in stating to you the grievanees of the natives generally in connection with this dispute. I remain Yours respectfully, A.M. Donald.
