Auckland 22 March 1875 My dear Sir Donald, This may perhaps still find you at Maketu. I received with many thanks the Bay of P. Times of the 13th instant, giving account of your reception etc. which on the whole must have been very gratifying. It seems to have been opportune and acceptable to the people that you should have been present at the opening of "'' as you know so well how these little affairs give pleasure and satisfaction in their way forming hereafter an important Epoch in the events of the district. Poor old Moses Tawhai has been suddenly removed and agree with you that it is a ''public loss.'' I enclose herewith the slips I named to you in my Telegram; the inuendos were rather too pointed and too true to be agreeable, especially to the editor of the Star I am told he was very angry. I think nevertheless perhaps a little too strong. We are to have Sir Geo Grey tonight - as you will have seen by the Paper he has taken care to keep himself unfettered with the Provincials, and in so far as I can make out far from being opposed to present policy. Saw Preece on his way to the Kaipara who will be just in time for the Court. Paul has not yet returned and will reply by Telegram to your Enquiries. Shall be making Requisitions for the Blocks in the Bay and Wangarei about £5000 altogether I propose to ask for Marsh Brown's first, as soon as I can get the from Fenton, I shall apply - if not before as the Several Amounts to be paid as soon as may be, Please to facilitate the payments of these monies and hoping this may find you in good health. I remain, faithfully yours, H.T. Kemp
