Auckland Feb. 5, 1864 My dear Sir, I received your note yesterday regarding the M. M. affair with which I am pretty well satisfied. You have no idea of the jealous feeling which exists in some people's breasts in reference to myself but who can. You and one of the officers of the 'Eclipse' are the only persons who have written congratulatory letters to me on this great occasion - I have been so busy that I have not been able to pay all your bills yet some are paid long ago and if I can find the papers today that matter shall be disposed of. Since the horrible murder at Kaipara you will see another affair which has taken place but I soon had the fellows taken up and that is settled. I was very much annoyed at not being able to get your money from the Treasury. The papers are I believe referred back again to you. Mr. Hill was talking to me yesterday about your house. Some one wants to buy it. I referred him to Graham. We are all well at Mount Albert and beginning to do well they are desireous of being kindly remembered to you, when you come up again I shall have a good house built there. I am as usual in an awful hurry and this is only an apology of a letter. If the General does not do something soon I would not give much for the loyalty of the N- Yours always J. Rogan
