Colonial Treasury Auckland 9th. February 1856 My dear Sir, As it appears to be uncertain when you may be in town, may I beg the favour of your sending me, by return of steamer, a Cr. on Auckland, for the amount of salary that will be due to me from 1st. July last, to 29th. inst., say 8 months at £30 per annum, - £20. I would not trouble you but that I shall need the money by the time the steamer returns. I wrote to you by the Overland Mail to Wellington. Since then I have heard of your departure to Nelson. The favour of a reply per steamer will oblige, My dear Sir, yours faithfully (Signed) James S. Bayliss. To:- D. McLean Esq. Letter from James S. Bayliss, to Donald McLean Esq. dated 9th. February 1856
