'Turiroa' March 8, 69 Felix Goulets statement. We lowered the canoe and went to get Breakfast and then the two men ('Te Warehi' and 'Te Amo') went in the canoe with 5 bales of wool, about 5 minutes after I heard the report of a gun 200 yards from the House I took my glass and ran up the Hill -- before I got half way I heard some more firing and saw two natives on Hill about 200 yards from me calling to others -- down below there were some more men -- at the same time they were firing pretty sharp -- I ran down as fast as I could. I took the wife and children and took a canoe that was about 100 yards from the House, as soon as I launched her I pushed her off so that the current would take her down -- I saw no more of the natives after that -- About three (3) Hours after I heard a gun fired above me (up the River) and a kind of Cooee I heard no more until 3 or 4 in the afternoon I heard four guns fired off, that was the last I heard. Sigd. Felix Goulet
