28 July 1866 Maraekakaho My dear brother I received your note and glad to hear you were well. I am glad to say that we are all well hear and things going on smothly. You did not send me the oats affter plowing the land. I must get seed to put in their. I hope you will send me the oats. There is not a bushell of oats to be got in Napier. I hear that some of the west coast people are trying to get a footing in Patea. I hope as it was left to yourselfe and as you may be seeing some of the natives that you will try and secure the place. The people hear are getting uneasy when they hear that other people are looking affter the place. Hopeing to hear soon from you. In haste. Your affectionate Alexander McLean
