My dear McLean, Mr. Stafford has been here and presses for your report on the validity of Teires title in order that it may be printed for the Assembly. I know you are overworked and cannot have a moment to spare but perhaps you could indicate where the materials are to be found to Smith. This subject will of course be the chief point of attack in the Assembly and requires therefore to be most carefully considered. I sent the messages you propose to Richmond and as yet have received no reply. You say nothing of the system of arbitration which I have set my heart on so much. What do you think of sending Martin's Rules to the Chiefs with a message and telling them that if they do elect the Runangas he speaks of we will communicate with him. Believe me, Yours sincerely, T. G. B. The Commodore is gone and your bed is ready for you when you like.
