Auckland, July 1/46. Dear McLean, I was glad to learn that the Governor had offered you and that you had accepted the appointment in the Police, which I have no doubt you will succeed as well in the duties of as in your former employment. With respect to the Clothing of the men I can say nothing about it at present. The Governor has gone to Wellington and you will probably receive instructions on the subject from thence, but if not I will get his authority to direct you when he returns here. I have sent you a Commissar for your Office, and in the next Govt. Gazette your name will be included in a List of the Commission of the peace. I remain, Yours truly, A. Sinclair.
