My dear Sir, A preliminary meeting was. convened at Waitara last Saturday by Teira and others favorable to the sale of a portion of the southern side of that river. W.Kingi was in opposition but owing to the silence of the majority of the natives present, it is difficult to say what, if any, advance was made in that direction. W. Kingi is now at the Kaipakopako in consequence of the death of Katatore's child, which took place last Saty., the little thing was to have been called Rehareha. The enclosed from Tiki poti confirms the prudence of suppressing the latter part of Mr.Schnackenberg's letter. Dorset, the Agent, has received a letter from Tiki poti complaining of having been blamed by Europeans unjustly and calling upon him to go himself for the goods. As there are two or three words in Ta Kerei's letter, not quite clear to me, which I have marked with red ink, I enclose original, lest there should be a mistake in the copy, and perhaps you will do me the favor to return it as I have not made a spare copy of it. My answer goes by this post and I trust you will not consider that I have in any way committed myself. Faithfully yours, H. Halse 1 Dec., 1857
