Wairoa May 14/68. My dear Sir, As there is no pilot boat here now (Mr. Stanley having taken his away yesterday) I had the damaged one brought up to town to see if it could be repaired, and I find that the work alone will amount to about £3 besides timber paint etc., I am also informed that she is hardly worth going to even that expense. Mr. Downes however offers to build a four oar boat 22 feet over all for £18 or a five oar boat 28 feet for £22. I thought I had better write to let you know before Toha left port, I think he mentioned the subject to you in Feby. last. The Flag staff also was blown down at the last gale, shall I see about getting it put up again. I am My dear Sir, Faithfully yours, S. Deighton.
