Westoe, Marton, 9th Nov. 1870 My dear McLean, I received your telegram from Otaki and am glad to hear that you are so far on your road. We shall look for you here in due course. There is to be a grand Volunteer Pic Nic here on Wednesday next 16th instant at which both you and Col. Harington are expected, but come as much earlier as you like. We have beds for both of you as long as you stay in the neighbourhood. Will you drop me a line by coach tomorrow or Monday at latest if you do not come yourself before that. I had a letter from Bell by the current mail that Featherston and he got shut out of the Steamer in consequence of the pressure on P and O steamers arising from practical closing of Marseille line. But they will both be here by the next Suez i. e. early in December I suppose. He gave no news except what is in the papers and some interesting accounts of his inspection of the -(? word)railway. I have not a line from Featherston, Yours faithfully, Wm. Fox
