Edinburgh 15th June 1847 My dear Donald I have just today had a letter from Mr Brown the bearer of my letter to you. I had not give you any home news tonight as I wrote you a long letter in May. Mr Brown who is I believe going to New Zealand in most desirous of having a letter of introduction from one of us to you and I do hope my dear that you will befriend him and do all that you can for his comfort. Mr B is a most respectable man from Greenock. We have known him for a long time and always found him kind and atintive. He was a linnen draper & at the time of selling off his stock my sister Flora Ann got some things from Mr B in your name. I hope my dear D that you will not grudge to pay Mr B for them. Although we are not so well acquainted with you. as we are with our other brothers yet from the fond enquiries you make for us when you write uncle F A thought she might venture to take the things that Mr B so kindly offered her in your name. My dear Donald as I wrote you so recently I shall not put of time in giving you home news and indeed I have not time tonight as I must have my letter in haste before 9 o'clock. F A and myself send you a back the peace by to ... I must not close my note untill I tell you a peace of news that I know will afford you much pleasure. Yesterday from London I had a letter from our brother John on his arrival from Port Philips. He is well and doing well but what afforded us great pleasure was to hear from him that he met with our dear brother Sandy. It seems that he came on horseback 290 miles to see him and remained with him for a fortnight. We were grieved to hear that he poor dear has lost his health but I trust that he will soon enjoy better health. My dear as it is now geting near the hour. I shall add no more tonight with sisterly love I am your affectionate sister Catherine McLean
