Taurarua, Auckland Feby. 25, 1874 My dear Sir As Sir William and I are proposing to sail for England in April, I venture to trouble you about two Maori boys in whom we are interested and whom we desire to see placed at St. Stephen's Native School. They are at present in the orphan Home and are just over age for that institution. The one is a son of your and our old friend Revd.Rota Waitoa. He is a fine little fellow of ten. If he returns home, he will run wild and lose much of the benefits of his previous training. The other boy is Albert Victor Pomare, the Queen's godson. Her Majesty has hitherto paid for him in the Orphan Home. Both William Rota and he will continue to receive the £7 per annum required beyond the Govt. allowance at St. Stephens. Mr. Burrowes tells us that there is plenty of room there if you will kindly sanction their admission. I am, dear Sir Yours faithfully Mary Ann Martin I have conferred with Mr. Burrowes and he advised me to refer the matter to you.
