Auckland, 20 Nov., 1846. My Dear Sir, I have received lately from you several Notes which I have not had an opportunity to answer till now, You cannot have been otherwise than vexed and put to much inconvenience from want of funds and want of instructions for the Police force under your directions. We have sent both now and I hope they will give you some relief. With respect to clothing the men you will have to do your best to get them clothed on the spot, and what may be deficient you will have to get from Wellington or this place as may be most convenient. You will receive also by the Victoria arms and ammunition for your Corps, and there is nothing else which I recollect at present should be sent to you. The Legislative Council has just finished its sittings and we are still very busy in the public offices clearing off the aprears of business that had accumulated during the time they lasted. We have also to prepare for the Governor going again to the Southward, when I have no doubt he will make an effort to visit your Settlement. I am happy to observe that he isk from the reports he hears of you, disposed to be well pleased with your services. I shall be very glad to see you either in Auckland or when I can have an opportunity of taking an excursion to your part of the country. I have now been kept in Auckland nearly three years without being able to go anywhere and I must not let the next year pass at all events without having a trip somewhere - perhaps as far as the Mill of Cantyre! If you can pick up any small shells either on the sea coast or inland on the banks of rivers etc. I hope you will not forget my great desire to procure such things. I remain, My Dear Sir, Yours truly, A. Sinclair.
