Recommended if it should be found expedient to purchase land from Nikorima and his party at Titirangi and the Taniwha, that a sum not exceeding £500 should be paid to secure the land, even if it cannot be taken possession of by the Government until opposing claimants are satisfied. and Recommended in the event of Te Teira's land being purchased that the maximum to be paid for it should be decided upon before His Excellency and Mr. Richmond leave for Auckland. A large price will be expected, as it embraces that part of the Waitara most elibible for a town site. The maximum price authorised for the purchase of land at Taranaki is 3/- per acre, and in particular cases it may even exceed this sum. The present is a case as a means of breaking up a league, and of acquiring valuable land where such excess will be requisite. Letter in Maori from Makarini to Nikorima
