Mokau Feb. 17/54 My dear Sir, We were glad to hear from you - and the prospect pf perhaps seeing you here - A party of natives came with the lads to learn the contents of your pakapaka. Peketahi I buried the other day - others are of his mind about land but the chiefs are not here, therefore I dare not say haere mai though I suppose the natives will do so. +I have little doubt you will get the land but the oposition must be applied toby you and not by Takerei ma or they must be let alone until they come forward of themselves, I think. Kaka sometimes seems to take a little delight in telling me that Hikaka is of his mind, but I believe there would not be much difficulty in getting him over. I have been somewhat reserved in the matter. We shall be glad to see you here but if you pass I hope you will let me know your present whaka aro. Mrs. S. desires her respects, I remain, Yours very truly, C.H. Schnackenberg.
