March 26th. Napier 1869. Sir, In compliance with instructions from the Honble. the Defence Minister, I have the honor to request you will inform the Natives who are anxious to attack ''Te Waru'' that the Govt. will give a reward of two hundred £200 Pounds for the capture of that chief. And ten pounds a piece for any of the male adults of the Party who are threatening ''Te Wairoa''. You should urge immediate action on the part of the friendly Natives; and it is desirable that any notice of the intended attack should not reach the enemy to prevent which rapidity of movement will contribute greatly. I shall instruct Capt. Spiller to issue on your requisition ammunition and rations to the Natives who proceed on the expedition. I have to add that the success or failure of this movement will depend much upon your intelligence and activity and by your inducing them to start at once. You will be so good as to inform me when they move off that I may acquaint the Govt. and keep me advised from time to time of the progress of the expedition. I have the Honor to be Sir Your very obedt. servt. C. Lambert. Lt. Col. Commr. District. G.B. Worgan Esq. Wairoa.
